I enjoyed this! If it wasn't "firing on all the cylinders" of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 version, it was merely because it didn't HAVE those cylinders (I think that, like John Phillip Law in "Barbarella", puppets are made of *love* :-)).

Given it was a live show, naturally there were many fewer jokes. This allowed them to sidestep the original riffing, while occasionally using it for background. I thought it showed a lot of skill, and I laughed several times. All in all, a triumph, and well worth the $12.50!

P.S. Was that a modern-day Tom Neyman (the original "Master") in the clip from the new Manos sequel that they showed after the riffing??

I was quite impressed with the showing, particularly in how
they were able to riff the whole thing without reusing any notable
riffs from the original.

This was the first Riftrax Live I've been to since marrying, by
the way, and the first time my darling bride has seen Manos, though she's
heard about it in extreme from other folks. (I think I've been tolerably
restrained in talking about it, myself.) She survived in good mental
order, I believe. At least we'll see.

Great show all around, and I can't help but compare this to Cinematic
Titanic's revisit to "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians". That one
shied away from the original by making the riffs more current, while
Rifftrax's jokes were more aimed at the ineptness of "Manos". Between
the two, I'd say SCCtM made me laugh more, but not by much.

And I'm guessing that was Neyman, and little Debbie as the deformed
woman in "Manos II", but don't hold me to that.

Cinematic Titanic's remake of _Santa Claus Conquers The
Martians_ is the obvious comparison to make. And it is something that
I worry about, a bit, actually: revisiting MST3K highlights is fun, but
it also threatens to make the fandom a more insular and self-centered
thing than it has to be. The Rifftrax sketch with the Torgo and Master
from _Manos II_ barely made sense if you hadn't seen the original
episode, and while the riffing (in either remake) didn't depend on the
original, it's also something to watch out for.

From what I read that was Neyman and the original Debbie, at
least according to people commenting on the mst3kinfo.com site who
sound like they know what they're talking about.
