Just listen to the third theme song. They say that Mike too was "a regular Joel they didn't like." So I guess they shot him into space for the same reasons they did for the first Joel.

I guess Kinga Forrestor has no similar dislike for Joels, as there's no mention of Jonah being a Joel at all.

Well, she did try to marry him (for ratings, but still.)

And, for the record, they shot Mike "in his face". I assume they didn't have proper life support systems in Deep 13 for his recovery and sent him up for Gypsy to take care of. Eventually he got better and was able to return to Earth, though due to the medical bills he had to share a small apartment with the bots who got jobs on automated assembly lines, at first at Johnson Controls, but not for long due to their constant giggling, then later at Kohler which was ok with it for some reason.

Although it sounds like "So they shot him in the face", the line in the song is actually "So they shot him into space." Common mistake. :)

Good point! Mike was killed by the Mads and they did an experiment where they pulled him from purgatory and forced him to spend eternity watching bad movies! I remember seeing the episode where they explained it!!!!

A "regular Joe." Common expression for the average guy, nothing special.
